Incorporation of L-phenylalanine-U-^<14>C, Na-acetate-2-^<14>C into ochratoxin A was demonstrated in Aspergillus ochraceus, suggesting that the biosynthesis of ochratoxin A involves so called "acetate-malonate" and "shikimic acid" pathways. By the aid of ^<13>C-NMR spectrometric method, the participation of Na-formate-^<13>C for the formation of carboxyl group was confirmed.
