An enzyme oxidizing ethanolamine was partially purified from beef serum by fractionation with ammonium sulfate and DEAE-cellulose column chromatography. This partially purified preparation showed an optimum pH of 7.5 and apparent Km of 4×10^<-3>M for ethanolamine. Without regard to the addition of catalase, the ratio of oxygen consumption to ammonia formation was 1 : 1 and the oxidation product of ethanolamine was identified as glyoxal.
