Metamagnetic Behavior of the Heavy-Fermion Compound CeNi_2Ge_2

We have studied the temperature dependence of the electrical resistivity, the magnetic sus-ceptibility and the high-field magnetization of CeNixGez. Quadratic temperature dependence ofthe resistivity is observed below O.7K. The susceptibility exhibits a broad maximtrm at 28K.Magnetization shows rnetarnagnetic behavior at f)j x 42T as in CeRu3Si3. These restrlts indi-cate that CeNizGez is a new heavy-ferrnion compound showing the rnetamagnetic behavior inthe nonmagnetic ground state.
