The real (s)) and irnaginary (sz) parrts of' tlae dielectric ftrzaction of' CL12O have been zneasttred by spectr'oscopic ellipsoraaetry in the 1.2 -5.2 eV photon-er?ergy range at roona teraapera-ttrre. The CLl2O single crystatls used in this sttrdy xvere gI0XVIl lay 21 floating-zone taaelting tech-raiqtue. Dielectric-ftmnction spectra raaeastrred reve?xl distinct. strtrcttrres at energies of Pg0x 2.6 eV(" bltre" exciton series), Eg j) '? 2.8 eV ("itadigo" exciton series), Eg .4 x 3.5 eV ?tnd E3 j3 x 4.3 eV.The spectra are analyzed on tlae basis of a sitnplified raaodel of' the interband transitiozas. Restultsare in satisfactory agreeument with the experimentsrl data over tlae entire range of' photon energies.Dielectric-related optical constants, stmch as the cottaplex refractive index (n' = n -4- iA:), absorp-tion coefficient (Q) and nortaaal-inacidence reflectivity (,R), of' CL12O atre also presented. Also, xveobtait? the static and hi:It-f'recttrencv dielectric const?xnts of' CU12O as E. = 7.87 ?tnd s.x : 6.95,respectively.
