The bonding, electronic strtrcttrres and dielectric fttnctions of vacancy-ordered orthorhotnbicand taaonoclinic GaxSea are calculated by trsing the ab initio pseudopotential rnethod and thelinear response theory. XVe laave f'ottnd that in these coraajcotrnds the bonds arotrnd vacancies relaxsuch that the bond lengtla ftrlfills the order as sp'-like bond >.s7t-like bond, and the daztgling-bond states of aniota atorns located nearrest to sttch vacant sites appear at the valence-bandtop. These states prodtrce the loonding, i.e. one-dirnensional band, along the vacancy-orderingdirection and becorne the origin of large optical anisotropy at the absorption edge. The presentrestrlts well explain the recent experitnents.
