Nonlinear Magnetic-Susceptibility of Two-Diemensional Magnets (C_nH_<2n+1>NH_3)_2CuCl_4 with n=1,2 and 3

The two-dimensional (2-d) compounds (C.H2.;1NH3)2CUC14 with n : 1, 2 and 3 have ferromagnetic intralayer exchange interaction, while the extretnely weak interlayer exchange interaction is ferromagnetic for n = 1 and antiferrornagnetic for n : 2 and 3. The nonlinearmagnetic-susceptibility X2 on these three magnets has been measured around the critical term-peratures of the respective magnets using a mutual-inductance ac-magnetorneter and a dc SQUIDmagnetometer. The curves of a log-log plot of X2 versus e + (T - T.)/T. for n : 1 and 3 arediscussed consistently with those of AD versus s, which indicates the crossover from a 2-d Isingto a 3-d Ising regime. The critical behavior of X2 (T) observed in n : 2 reflects the successivecrossovers, i.e., 2-d Heisenberg -: 3-d Heisenberg -* 3-d Ising as T approaches to 'Z'N.
