Observation of Pressure-Induced Structural Transition in K^3CuF^4 by Phonon-Raman Scattering Experiments:Change of the Orbital Ordering by Pressure

Since the ferrounagnetic intralayer exchange interaction in K2CUF4 is dtte to the antif'errodis-tortive (AFD) orbital ordering of the 3d holes of Ctr" tons, xve expect that the ['erronaagtaetisrn ofthis cotnpound to disappear xvhen the AFD order of' the distortion of CttF(j octahedra collapses.Recent magnetic susceptibility measurements perforrned at high pressures on this compoundactually confirmed the disappearance of the ferrornagnetism above approxitnately 9 GPa [lVI.Ishizuka et al.z J. Phys. Soc. Jpn. 65 (1996) 1927]. To obtain evidence of' the pressttre-indtrcedstructtrral change which corresponds to the rn?tgnetic change unentioned above, we treasured thepresstrre dependence of the phonon-Raranan spectra of this conapottnd. As a restrlt, we found thatthe scattering lines relevant to the vibrational naodes of CuF5 octahedra ordered in the AFDfashion disappeared above 9 N 10 GPa. This result is consistent with the strtzcttrre above 9 GParevealed by recent X-ray diffraction experinaents that we performed.
