Ferroelectricity along the a-and c-Directions with Antiferroelectricity along the b-Direction in Rb_2ZnBr_4 and Rb_2CoBr_4

It was found that Rb.ZnBr. and Rb.CoBr. crystals exhibit ferroelectricity alongthe pseudo-hexagonal c-axis in the phases below the second Curie point 78 K and 62K, respectively. The temperature dependence of the spontaneous polarization in thea-direction, P';, the antiferroelectric polarization in the Z>-direction, P:', and thespontaneous polarization in the c-direction, PJ, of these single crystals was measuredby means of a pyroelectric method down to 4 K. The temperature dependence of thedielectric constants along the three crystallographic axes was reexamined between 4and 360 K. Small peak anomalies around 10 K and 56 K for Rb.ZnBr. and around 17K for Rb.CoBr. were observed.[Rbz ZnBr., Rb.CoBr., ferroelectricity, antiferroelectricity, pyroelectricity, ]l (NH.).S0. family ferroelectrics, Rb.ZnCl. group ferroelectricsl
