The method of the symmetry breaking potential is applied to discuss the columnarliquid crystalline order in the system of perfectly aligned rigid cylindrical molecules(including discs in the case that the diameter D is larger than the length L ). The colum-nar phase, in which the columns of molecules form a triangular lattice in the planeperpendicular to the aligned orientation, is shown to be more stable than the nematicphase at higher density than r7 = r7.= 0.471 in the 3-rd virial approximation, where q isthe packing fraction. The lattice constant d of the structure is given as d= 1 .36D. Theresult is independent of the ratio DSL because of the assumption of the perfectlyparallel alignment of molecules.[hexagonal columnar mesophase, method of symmetry breaking potential, 3-rd lj virial approximation, phase transition, statistical theory of hard rodsl
