Hole Distribution in YBaCuO System from the Analysis of Cu 2P-XPS,Cu 2P-XAS and O 1s-XAS

We analyze the polarization dependence of the Cu 2p-XAS and the Cu 27v-XPS ob-served in the YBa.Cu.0. ,5 system. To take into account the nonequivalent Cu sites inYBa.Cu.0, we use a model where the impurity Anderson model and a Cub. clustermodel are linked, where the former and the latter describe the Cub. plane and theCu0 chain, respectively, For YBa.Cu,0.., the Cub. cluster is replaced by a Cub.cluster. For 0< (>< 0.5, the spectrum is obtained by a superposition of the spectra forJ=0 and 0.5. Obtained results quantitatively reproduce the experimental results ofCu 27t-XAS, and the electron configuration of the ground state obtained from ourspectral analysis suggests that extra holes will enter both the 0 sites in the CuO chainsand the Cub, layers. This picture is also supported by the analysis of the polarizationdependence in the 0 l.s'-XAS.
