Theory of 4f→3d X-Ray Emission Spectra in La and Ce Compounds

Theory of X-ray emission spectroscopy (XES) corresponding to the 4f=3cl elec-ironic transition in insulating La and Ce compounds is presented. The spectra arecalculated with the impurity Anderson model by taking into account the spin and orbital degeneracies and by applying a formula of coherent second order optical pro-cess. It is shown that the spectral features of the 4f=3d XIS are very sensitive to thedifferences in the 4f electron populations in these rare-earth materials, because the 4felectron directly participates in the radiative process.
