Stabilization and Destabilization of Sawtooth Oscillations by Lower Hybrid Current Drive in the WT-3 Tokamak

Sawtooth oscillations appearing in Ohmically heated (OH) plasmas are suppressedby the lower hybrid current drive (LHCD) in the WT-3 tokarnak (R=65 cm, a=2Ocm, l.,z 100 kA, rz.= 1 - 2 X 10" cm ', q.z 4.5, and P..>100 kW). After the suppres-sion, sawteeth reappear following m = 1 oscillations in the LH0D plasmas. The lattersawteeth have a large amplitude and long period (T,=2-5 msec), compared with theformer one (7'.=0.5-1.5 msec). Furthermore, they do not acccompany a precursorand crash very fast.[sawtooth oscillations, lower hybrid current drixze, suprathermal electron, cur- ll rent profile, internal disruptionl
