High-pressure Raman spectra of sulfur hexafluoride (SF.) have been measured upto 10 GPa at 300 K in a gasketed diamond anvil cell, The pressure dependence ofthree Raman active intramolecular vibrations and the overtone of the v. mode hasbeen investigated. The liquid-solid I and solid I-II phase transitions at respectivepressures 0.25 GPa and 1.80 GPa are presented by tlte drastic change in Rarnan bandwidths and the splitting of vibrational modes, respectively. The observed solid I andII phases correspond to plastic (bcc structure) and monoclinic phases, respectively,that also appear at low temperatures under atmospheric pressure. The I-II transitionpressure is supported by the good agreement with that obtained by extrapolation (to300 K) of phase boundary previously determined at low temperatures.[sulfur hexafluoride, plastic phase, high-pressure, diamond anvil cell, Raman ll scattering, phase transitionll
