Inelastic scattering of X-rays by an inner-shell electron in solids is treatedtheoretically under the condition of 2xa72.< 1 and 101>:,1v.>I, where 2. and Iv.are a wavelength and an energy of the incident X-rays and a and I are the radiusand the ionization energy of the irmer-shell electron, respectively. In this case, the contribution by the p' J-term in the Hamiltonian is not negligible com-pared to that by the J"-term, but gives an appreciable p" A band in the scatteringspectrum. As an example, the scattering of soft X-rays by A-electrons in lithiumis treated. The result shows the cross-over of the spectral intensity from the A'-term dominant Raman band to the p' J-term dominant band as Itv. becomessmaller. An experiment using the monoclu'omatic bright radiation from anundulator equipped in a synchrotron orbit would be useful to confirm the presenttheory.
