The exponents at the threshc>ld of soft X-ray absorption and emission spectra ofmetals in the theory of Nozieres and De Dominiccis are calctrlated. Effects of theperiodic potential on an electron in a conduction band are formttlated to be given in aneffective mass approximation and the structures of the inner-shell holes are included inthe hole potentials. In the present formulation, the change of the electronic wavefunction in metals due to the hole potential is expressible in terms of the phase shiftwhich is obtained in the first Born approximation. Time exponents obtained in this wayguve a satusfactory agreement w'ith the experiments on the absorption and emissionspectra of Na, Mg and AN within the precision of analysis. In particular, for Li ourresult agrees roughly with the experimental one obtained by Baer et al. (Phys. RevLetters 37 (1976) 49) using X-ra.y photoemission.
