On the Inelastic Scattering of γ-Rays by Deeply Bound Electrons

The inelastic scattering of 7-rays by a bound electron is investigated theoreticallyfor the case of ka N 1, where hk is the momentum transfer of' the primary 7-ray and ais the orbital radius of the bound electron, respectively. By tire use of orthogonalizedplane wave (OPW) for an electron wave function in the scattering state, the result ofcalculation is compared with that of the experiment obtained by Namikawa andHosoya (Phys. Rev. Left. 53 (1984) 1606): scattering of 59.57 keV y-rays by A-shellelectrons of Cu. The C peak and R peak in the experimental spectrum are obtainedtheoretically, but the height of the R peak is approximately l 7 3 that of the experirnen-tal result.
