Toroidal Current Drive by Lower Hybrid Wave in WT-2 Tokamak

When RF power P.. near the lower hybrid frequency is injected to a low den-sity plasma in WT-2 tokamak, the loop voltage decreases and falls to a negativevalue, implying that an RF-driven current I.( is produced. The efficient RF-currentgeneration is obtained as l.(/P.(:0.6 kA/kW. The associated relaxation oscillation,where voltage spikes, step-like increases in electron cyclotron emission and X-raybursts appear, and the correlated ion cyclotron instabilities are observed. Thesephenomena support the production of I., in the toroidal plasma.
