Velocity-Slip and Temperature Difference of Gas Mixtures in a Free-Jet Expansion

By using the thirteen moment equations for a binary gas mixture of Maxwellmolecules, the expressions for the velocity-slip and temperattu'e difference betweenspecies in the source-flow expansion into a vacuum are obtained for the case of asmall Knudsen number. Then, the velocity-slip and temperature difference on thecenterline of the free-jet expansion from an orifice are calculated by using itsanalogy to the source-flow. It is shown that the velocity-slip attains a maximumnear x'/D'=1 and the temperattu'e difference increases rapidly with the increaseof x'/D', where x' is the distance along the jet axis measured from the orifice ofdiameter D'.
