The magnetic anisotropy of CsMnCI. was measured using a high sensitivetorquemeter. Interpretations of the torque measttrements below the Neel pointare presented. From this analysis are determined the anisotrc>py constants K. andK. at 4.2 K as 2.39 x 10 erg/cm' and 4.74 x 10' erg/cm', respectively, where Kgus associated with the anisotropy energy within the (001) plane and K. withthxt which confines the spin axis in the plane. A large reduction in K. was found, which is possibly due to a domain effect.
