Raman Scattering by Coupled LO Phonon-Plasmon Mode in n-GaAs

Recent experinaental results of Ranaan spectra in galliuna arsenide are analyzedon the basis of a non-local tlteor>' of tlae couplinn between plasmons and longi-tudinal optical (LO) phonons. A for?aaula is derived which gives the efficiency forthe Raman scattering by a coupled [0 phonon-plasmom (LO-PI) mode in amabsorptive medium. The fimiteness of the wave nuuaaber of the scattering naode andthe attenuation of lisht in the naedittm are exrlicitlv taken into account. Ananal>'sis of the GaAs Ranaan srectra obtained recentl>r b>' Murase ex at. shows thatthe theory reproduces the experimental results fairly well. It also explains thecharacteristic featttres of the spectra. The integrated efficiency from the LO-PLnaode in GaAs is esti?nated to be of the order of 10 =".
