Raman Scattering by Sofy Plasmon-LO Phonon Modes in Ferroelectric Semiconductors

We present a theory of Raman scattering by the low-lying soft coupled plasmon-longitudinal optical (LO) phorzon modes at low temperatures in semiconductingincipient ferroelectrics. The softening of this mode gives a dynamical intimationof the screened LO phonon instability induced by the displacive ferroelectricphase transition. We compare our calculations with Raman spectra from o-KTa0.observed by Uwe et al., on the basis of the soft mode-like behavior of the coupledmodes as well as of the simple energy band structture.
