Luminescence and Inter-Valence Band Hole Relaxation in High Density Electron-Hole Plasma in CdSe and CdS

Picosecond time-resolved sr>ectra of the sr>ontaneous luminescence from highdensitv electron-hole r>lasma in CdSe and CdS are measured at 4.2 K under theband-to-band excitation. It is observed that two emission bands appear, whichare due to the two kinds of r>lasmas consistinz, resrectivel>', of the A and B valenceband holes. From the time chanues of these two bands, it is obtained that t?erelaxation time or holes from ttte B to A valence band is ,35 pg for CdSe and,55 ps for cas. rtmis inter-valence band relaxation of holes is caused b>' theacoustic phonon scattering in CdS, but in CdSe the LO-phonon scattering playsan important role in addition to the acoustic phonon scattering.
