On the Lowest Landau Level of Electrons in Bismuth (Selected Topics in Semiconductor Physics<特集>) -- (Transport)

It is shown that the anomalous increase of carrier density in bismuth at strong magnetic field clarified from the Aflven wave experiments is consistent with the model of two interacting lowest Landau levels proposed by Vecchi and Dresselhaus. It is found that the closest approach of two levels occurs at about 115 kG for magnetic field applied parallel to the binary axis, but, the coupling between them is weak and the effect to the carrier density is negligibly small below 200 kG.
