Reduction of Defects in the Single-Crystalline Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O Superconductor

Growth conditions in the KCI-flux method were refined to reduce defects in the platelike crystals of Bi_2Sr_2CaCu_2O_<8+y>. Crystals were grown from high-temperature solutions by slow-cooling and subsequent isothermal processes in a horizontal temperature gradient. As a result, we succeeded in excluding defects that had been observed as etch pits in our previous study.
