Renormalization of Velocity of Sound in Bismuth in Magnetic Field

Quantum oscillations of 20 MHz longitudinal velocity of sound are nveasuredat liquid helium te?mperatures in magnetic fields up to 23 k0e fox' single crystalsof pure and tellurium doped bisxtcuth. It is found that for sound wave propagatingparallel to the bisectrix axis, non-principal electrons do not contribute to theoscillations in pure bismuth, but, in doped bisnauth hut which no hole is present,all groups of electrons contribute to the oscillations. It is show'n that this experi-naental fact indicates the ixnportance of the effect of the screening in the processof the renorntalization of the phonon freqtuency in a sexvainaetal.
