Quantum Oscillations of Velocity of Sound in p-Pb_<1-x>Ge_xTe in Rhombohedral Phase

Quantum oscillations of shear acoustic wave were observed in p-Pb. ,Ge.Te(,X'=0.014) at lict. He temreratures. Tln'ee kinds of different branches of thefrequencies were resolved by the Fourier analyses of the oscillations. By com-paring with the theoretical model of the energy surfaces by Takaoka and Murase,these oscillations were identified as arising from the triplet up-, the triplet down-and the singlet down-state energy surfaces. The singlet up- energy surface is toosmall to be observed. From the ratios of the observed frequencies for magneticfield parallel to the major axis of the energy surfaces, we estimated AE.0.006 eV and Eu=O.O6 eV where AE. is the downward shift of the valence bandedge at L-point relative to that at T-point, E is the optical deformation potentialconstant and u is the internal displacement of the sublattices.
