Magnetic Resonance and Resistivity Studies on Polyacetylene : Soliton Dynamics and Metallic Conduction

We have summarized the experimental work on polyacetylene problems done at Tokyo Metropolitan University over these ten years. First, the soliton dynamics in trans-polyacetylene was studied by the frequency dependence experiment of T_1^<-1> and T_2^<-1> of ESR. In contrast with the corresponding NMR studies, the interpretation of ESR results was unique. The obtained diffusion rate D〃 was ~1×10^<13>sec^<-1> at room temperature. A T^2-law appeared to hold in the temperature dependence of D1〃. Second, the metallic nature of inside of fibrils in heavily-doped polyacetylene was studied by the VSC electrical resistance experiment and the NMR method. The metallic temperature dependence of resistivity proportional to T^2 (or T) was observed over wide temperature range.
