Variational Calculations of the Alpha Particle with Realistic Nucleon-Nucleon Potentials

• A new variational method is applied to the alpha particle. Variational parameters required are only a few. The realistic potentials used are the Hamada-Johnston (H-J) and the Tamagaki (OPEH and OPEG) potentials. Numerical integrarions are carried out using the quasi-random number method and the Monte Carlo method. The upper-bound energies obtained are -19.0 MeV for H-J, -22.1 MeV for OPEH and -20.5 MeV for OPEG. The tensor force in the triplet-even state has large contribution to the energy. This comes from the characteristic of the new method in which the D-state function is not of Jastrow's type but of multiple scattering one.
