Confinement of Plasma by Means of T. B. S. Type Magnetic Field

The decay times of plasma density were studied in the T. B. S. (Tennis Ball Seam) type magnetic field that has a local minimum in the magnetic field strength. The plasma, which is generated by a Marshall-type coaxial plasma gun, having with density n=10^<13>-10^<15>cm^<-3> and velocity v=10^5-10^6 cm/sec is injected along a mirror axis of the T. B. S.type magnetic field. The density on a magnitude of the magnetic field strength and on an applied voltage of the plasma gun were determined by a double probe method. The results obtained in this experiment show that the decay times of the density increased with increasing the magnetic field strength. And in the strongest field the maximum 1/e-folding time of the density is 85 μsec.
