Plasma Confined in the Minimum B Induced by Single Loop Current

A minimum B in a magnetic field is one of the useful methods for confinement of plasma. In this experiment, the field of the minimum B is induced by a current which is flowing through the "tennis ball seam" type coil. The plasma is made by means of a high frequency discharge at pressure of 5×10^<-2>mmHg in air. The applied h. f. field is 250V in height, peak to peak, at 14.5 MHz in frequency and at 65mA in current. The spatial distribution of plasma density and temperature are measured by a double probe method with increasing the coil current. The results in these experiments are found that the plasma density is apparently and the temperature slightly increased with increasement of strength of the megnetic fields. Perhaps it may be able to compress the plasma by this type of magnetic field.
