Marangoni instability is studied theoretically which occurs due to heat transfer in a liquid layer bounded below by a solid layer and above by a gas phase. By taking into account thermal disturbances in the solid layer, the ratio of thickness against the two layers, the ratio of thermal conductivities and the ratio of thermometric conductivities are contained as additional parameters in the problem of linear stability. It is found that the critical Marangoni number is given by 48 for disturbances of long wavelength.
