Marangoni instability of two-phase fluid layer is studied theoretically in which mass transfer of a gas component occurs between the upper gas phase and the lower liquid phase. It is shown for three-dimensional small disturbances that some types of instability may arise depending upon the parameters involved, one of which is due to the interface deformation of long wavelength. A detailed analysis is made for the disturbances. A brief comment is made on unsteady convection.
