A stability problem on the onset of Marangoni convection due to thermocapillary instability is studied theoretically for two viscous fluids on the inside and outside of a circular pipe, between which the annular interface may then deform to give rise to capillary instability. The coupling mechanisums of thermocapillary and capillary instabilities are analyzed for the quasi-steady convection of one annular fluid on a solid boundary. It is shown that the temporal growth rate changes depending upon the radial gradient of temperature. It is sown that the result for the annular fluid is reduced to that for a fluid layer of teh flat plate.
