Na^+, K^+-ATPase inhibiting factor in bovine serum albumin was investigated by studying on the inhibition of K^+-dependent p-nitrophenylphesphatase activity which is catalyzed by Na^+, K^+-ATPase and more sensitive to the albumin inhibition than overall reaction of Na^+, K^+-ATPase. The inhibition of K^+-dependent phosphatase activity by bovine serum albumin was prevented by PAR, 4 (2-pyridylazo)-resorcinol, which is a chelator of vanadium. The inhibition of the enzyme activity by vanadate was also prevented by PAR. The vanadium assay in the bovine serum albumin revealed that inhibiting ability of the bovine serum albumin depended on the vanadium content in the albumin. The previous suggestion that the inhibiting factor in albumin might be vanadate was further supported.
