Na^+, K^+-ATPase activity in the 2 M NaI treated microsomes prepared from guinea pig brain was inhibited by Sigma bovine serum albumin fraction V at the concentrations higher than 1mg/ml, though Na^+, K^+-ATPase activity in brain microsomes had been reported to be insensitive to bovine albumin inhibition. K^+-dependent phosphatase activity in this preparation was inhibited by albumin at the concentrations higher than 0.1mg/ml as reported previously. The Na^+, K^+-ATPase inhibition by albumin required both presence of Mg^<2+> and K^+ at the concentrations higher than 2mM. The albumin inhibition on Na^+, K^+-ATPase activity was antagonized by increasing the concentrations of Na^+ and ATP. The albumin inhibition on K^+-dependent phosphatase activity showed similar ion requirements but not so distinctly as Na^+, K^+-ATPase acrtivity. The similarity was remarked between the inhibitions by vanadate and bovine serum albumin on the enzyme activities from these results. A probability was discussed that the albumin inhibition might be attributable to the vanadate like substance binding to bovine serum albumin.
