Diffusion and Clustering of Ag Atoms on $\text{Si}(111)7 \times 7$ Surface

We investigated the adsorption, diffusion, and clustering of Ag atoms on a $\text{Si}(111)7 \times 7$ surface by scanning tunneling microscopy. The three kinds of structure, i.e., monomers, dimers, and clusters, were observed at a coverage of 0.02 monolayer of Ag atoms. In particular, dimers in unfaulted half unit cells (UHUCs) were observed. We found that monomers in UHUCs jump to the next HUCs with a lifetime of $(5.6 \pm 0.4)\times 10^{3}$ s. We also measured height oscillation for the cross section analysis of dimers in UHUCs and proposed that Ag dimers move along three stable sites in HUCs in 0.5 ms.
