The title compound has the analytical formula of Co<SUB>4</SUB>H<SUB>36</SUB>I<SUB>3</SUB>NaO<SUB>35</SUB> and is seemingly well formulated as NaH<SUB>2</SUB>[Co<SUB>4</SUB>I<SUB>3</SUB>O<SUB>18</SUB>(OH<SUB>2</SUB>)<SUB>6</SUB>]·11H<SUB>2</SUB>O. But the structure determination revealed that the crystals contain non-protonated [Co<SUB>4</SUB>I<SUB>3</SUB>O<SUB>18</SUB>(OH<SUB>2</SUB>)<SUB>6</SUB>]<SUP>3−</SUP> and doubly protonated [Co<SUB>4</SUB>I<SUB>3</SUB>O<SUB>16</SUB>(OH)<SUB>2</SUB>(OH<SUB>2</SUB>)<SUB>6</SUB>]<SUP>−</SUP>. The anion itself has a new variation of the Anderson structure. The almost identical three p<I>K</I>'s of the acid, H<SUB>3</SUB>[Co<SUB>4</SUB>I<SUB>3</SUB>O<SUB>18</SUB>(OH<SUB>2</SUB>)<SUB>6</SUB>], explain the formation of the present crystals by co-precipitation of two forms of the anion with different degrees of protonation. Crystals are monoclinic, space group P2/c, with <I>a</I>=15.172(2), <I>b</I>=10.874(1), <I>c</I>=19.436(3) Å, β=116.58(1)°, <I>U</I>=2867.6(5) Å<SUP>3</SUP>, and <I>Z</I>=2. The final <I>R</I> factor was 0.036 for 7010 independent reflections.
