Potentiometric study of heteropolyanion formation from dimethylarsinate and molybdate anions in acidic aqueous solution.

The equilibria, <I>p</I>H<SUP>+</SUP>+<I>q</I>MoO<SUB>4</SUB><SUP>2−</SUP>+<I>r</I>(CH<SUB>3</SUB>)<SUB>2</SUB>AsO<SUB>2</SUB><SUP>−</SUP>=(H<SUP>+</SUP>)<I><SUB>p</SUB></I>(MoO<SUB>4</SUB><SUP>2−</SUP>)<I><SUB>q</SUB></I>[(CH<SUB>3</SUB>)<SUB>2</SUB>AsO<SUB>2</SUB><SUP>−</SUP>]<I><SUB>r</SUB></I> were studied by the use of a glass electrode in 1 M Na(Cl) ionic medium at 25 °C. The data were explained by assuming two heteropolyanions of the compositions, (<I>p</I>,<I>q</I>,<I>r</I>)=(6,4,1) and (7,4,1) with the formation constants logβ<SUB>6,4,1</SUB>=39.8±0.02 and logβ<SUB>7,4,1</SUB>=46.03±0.01.
