Single-crystal X-ray analysis has shown that the title compound is tetragonal, P4<SUB>2</SUB>/mbc, with <I>a</I>=13.705(2), <I>c</I>=7.271(1) Å. The structure is made of octahedra of <I>trans</I>-Sn(CH<SUB>3</SUB>)<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB> and tetrahedra of MoO<SUB>4</SUB>. These polyhedra share apices to form a three-dimensional structure.
