Synthesis and optical resolution of (RhIII(S)3(N)3) type complexes containing a thiolato, sulfenato, or sulfinato donor group.

• Rhodium(III) complexes, [Rh(SCH<SUB>2</SUB>CH<SUB>2</SUB>NH<SUB>2</SUB>)<SUB>3</SUB>] and [Rh{S(O)CH<SUB>2</SUB>CH<SUB>2</SUB>NH<SUB>2</SUB>}<I><SUB>n</SUB></I>{S(O)<SUB>2</SUB>CH<SUB>2</SUB>CH<SUB>2</SUB>NH<SUB>2</SUB>}<SUB>3−<I>n</I></SUB>](<I>n</I>=3, 2, 1, and 0), were prepared and optically resolved by means of column chromatography or preferential crystallization of diastereomeric molecular compound with (<I>R</I>,<I>R</I>)-tartaric acid, <I>d</I>-C<SUB>4</SUB>H<SUB>6</SUB>O<SUB>6</SUB>·(−)<SUB>300</SUB><SUP>CD</SUP>-[Rh{S(O)CH<SUB>2</SUB>CH<SUB>2</SUB>NH<SUB>2</SUB>}<SUB>3</SUB>]·H<SUB>2</SUB>O or <I>d</I>-C<SUB>4</SUB>H<SUB>6</SUB>O<SUB>6</SUB>·(+)<SUB>300</SUB><SUP>CD</SUP>-[Rh{S(O)CH<SUB>2</SUB>CH<SUB>2</SUB>NH<SUB>2</SUB>}<SUB>2</SUB>{S(O)<SUB>2</SUB>CH<SUB>2</SUB>CH<SUB>2</SUB>NH<SUB>2</SUB>}]. All the present complexes have only the <I>fac</I>(<I>S</I>) geometry. The (<I>R</I>) configuration of sulfenato group is more stable than the (<I>S</I>) one in the <I>Λ</I>-isomer.
