• A four-component solubility isotherm consisting of (<I>Λ</I>-[Co(en)<SUB>3</SUB>]<SUP>3+</SUP>, <I>Δ</I>[Co(en)<SUB>3</SUB>]<SUP>3+</SUP>)–(Br<SUP>−</SUP>,(<I>R</I>,<I>R</I>)-C<SUB>4</SUB>H<SUB>4</SUB>O<SUB>6</SUB><SUP>2−</SUP>)–H<SUB>2</SUB>O was determined at 25 °C. It was found that three double salts, <I>rac</I>-[Co(en)<SUB>3</SUB>]Br<SUB>3</SUB>·3H<SUB>2</SUB>O, <I>Λ</I>-[Co(en)<SUB>3</SUB>]Br(<I>d</I>-C<SUB>4</SUB>H<SUB>4</SUB>O<SUB>6</SUB>)·5H<SUB>2</SUB>O, and <I>Λ</I>-[Co(en)<SUB>3</SUB>]<SUB>0.48</SUB>·<I>Δ</I>-[Co(en)<SUB>3</SUB>]<SUB>0.52</SUB>(<I>d</I>-C<SUB>4</SUB>H<SUB>4</SUB>O<SUB>6</SUB>)<SUB>1.5</SUB>·5H<SUB>2</SUB>O and a gelatinous precipitate exist, six invariant points appearing. Application of this phase diagram to practical optical resolutions is discussed. The solubility of each salt in the system was measured in the range 5–65 °C in water, that of <I>Λ</I> and <I>Δ</I>-[Co(en)<SUB>3</SUB>](<I>d</I>-C<SUB>4</SUB>H<SUB>4</SUB>O<SUB>6</SUB>)<SUB>1.5</SUB>·<I>n</I>H<SUB>2</SUB>O being found to be reversed at 42 °C.
