• A four-component solubility isotherm consisting of <I>Λ</I>-[Co(en)<SUB>3</SUB>]<SUP>3+</SUP>, <I>Δ</I>-[Co(en)<SUB>3</SUB>]<SUP>3+</SUP>)–(I<SUP>−</SUP>, (<I>R</I>,<I>R</I>)-C<SUB>4</SUB>H<SUB>4</SUB>O<SUB>6</SUB><SUP>2−</SUP>)–H<SUB>2</SUB>O was determined at 25 °C. It was found that four double salts <I>rac</I>-[Co(en)<SUB>3</SUB>]I<SUB>3</SUB>·H<SUB>2</SUB>O, <I>Λ</I>-[Co(en)<SUB>3</SUB>]I(<I>d</I>-C<SUB>4</SUB>H<SUB>4</SUB>O<SUB>6</SUB>)·2H<SUB>2</SUB>O, <I>Λ</I>-[Co(en)<SUB>3</SUB>]<SUB>0.48</SUB>·<I>Δ</I>-[Co(en)<SUB>3</SUB>]<SUB>0.52</SUB>(<I>d</I>-C<SUB>4</SUB>H<SUB>4</SUB>O<SUB>6</SUB>)<SUB>1.5</SUB>·5H<SUB>2</SUB>O, and <I>Δ</I>-[Co(en)<SUB>3</SUB>]I(<I>d</I>-C<SUB>4</SUB>H<SUB>4</SUB>O<SUB>6</SUB>)·<I>n</I>H<SUB>2</SUB>O exist, six invariant points appearing. Application of this phase diagram to practical optical resolution is discussed in comparison with a system containing Br<SUP>−</SUP>. Some models of phase diagram for effective optical resolution in reciprocal salt-pairs are proposed.
