The tetrahedral intermediate in the intramolecular acyl transfer reaction of mono-<I>S</I>-acylated 1,8-naphthalenedithiol was found to be sufficiently stable to allow isolation or direct characterization by spectroscopy. Formation of carbenium ion from the intermediate is suggested in sulfuric acid.
