To prevent peroneal nerve palsy after barrel-vault osteotomy, we used a new leg support method, in which Steinmann pins inserted for external fixation were supported on the frame of a Brawn's stand.Nine peroneal palsies had previously occurred in 40 operations, but only one of 20 patients had transient mild weakness of the extensor hallucis longus muscle following this procedure.The anterior compartment pressure was measured postoperatively in 3 cases and we found that the pressure values in this method were markedly lower than in other support systems.
