:The Clinicopathological Study of 10 Cases

Ten patients with constitutional indocyanine green (ICG) excretory defect were reported. The clinical pictures, blood chemistries, ICG plasma disappearance rate, transfer rate of ICG from plasma to liver, binding of ICG to plasma proteins and histology of the liver were studied. The subjects ranged in age from 22 to 58 years (seven men and three women).The ICG plasma disappearance rate (KICG) and the retention rate at 15 minutes (R15, ICC) were markedly abnormal and averaged 0.0190±0.0048 and 7.70±5.99% respectively. The transfer rate of ICG from plasma to liver was markedly decreased with a mean value of 0.0222±0.0054.Histological findings of the liver revealed that, on light microscopic examination, three had fatty liver and one had chronic active hepatitis, while the remaining six subjects were normal. Electron microscopic findings revealed increase of lipofuscin granules, altered morphology of mitochondria and increase of reticulum fibers.These findings suggest that there is some relationship between morphological changes of the liver and the hepatic excretory mechanism of ICG.
