Evaluation of the functional recovery in phosphate metabolism of the regenerating liver in rats by using 3lP-NMR.

We studied the process of the functional recovery of the regenerating liver in rats at 1-4 weeks after partial hepatectomy from a view point of ATP synthesis by using <SUP>31</SUP>P-NMR. Intravenous administration of fructose or clamping the portal vein for 20min was performed temporarily to reduce ATP level in the liver. Changes in ATP level following both loads were analyzed during 60min. After administration of fructose, the differences in recovered ATP levels were observed in each group. Until 3 weeks after hepatectomy, the ATP level at 60min after fructose administration in hepatectomized rats was lower than that in non-resected control rats. However, ATP level in hepatectomized rats at 4 weeks recovered to the control level. After declamping the portal vein, the differences in ATP levels were observed in each group. ATP level in hepatectomized rats at 4 weeks also recovered to the control level. These results indicated that the ATP synthesis in hepatectomized rat recovered to the control level at least 4 weeks after hepatectomy.
