The mortality from colorectal cancer has been increasing in Japan and the early detection is considered the best way to decrease the incidence. In these 3 years, a total of 21, 985 patients in Kumamoto prefecture were screened with immnological fecal occult blood test and sigmoid fiberscopy.<BR>The results were that 86 cases of colorectal cancer of.which 48 were advanced cancer and 38 early cancer were found with the finding rate of 0.39%. Among of them 52 cases were negative on immnogological fecal occult blood test although 18 cases of this group had a symptom of melena. If we perform further minute examination for the cases in which occult blood test is positive and also which show a symptom of melena, the finding rate of cancer is supposed to become 0.28%.<BR>By this mass detection method of ours, survival rate of colorectal cancer patients in Japan will be able to be increased approximately 30%.
