We studied the effects of molybdenum on the corrosion resistance and biocompatibility of a Ti-10Zr-based system. Commercially pure titanium (c.p. Ti) was used as a control. We investigated as-cast Ti-10Zr and a series of Ti-10Zr-xMo (x=1-20 wt.%) alloys prepared using a commercial arc-melting vacuum pressure casting system. The corrosion resistance of Ti-10Zr-xMo in Hank's solution was evaluated by polarization curves, open circuit potential, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The biocompatibility of all specimens was assessed by means of culturing MG-63 cells for 1, 4 and 7 days. Electrochemical results showed that all the materials present very low values of corrosion current density. The cell viability revealed that all specimens showed good biocompatibility.
