In this paper, a physics-based equivalent circuit model is developed for striplines across a gap using the segmentation technique. The coupling effects between narrow slot and stripline are modeled with lumped circuits that are extracted based on Kron's network. The proposed equivalent circuit model can predict S-parameters, mode-voltages and EM radiation with a sufficient accuracy. In addition, the equivalent circuit model provides enough flexibility for different geometric parameters and can be used to develop physical insights and design guidelines. This study has successfully established a basic method to effectively predict signal integrity and EM interference issues on a PCB.
