The author determined the internal pressure of the rabbits with constitution stated in the former paper and studied the relation between the internal pressure of the bladder and the extensibility of the epithelial cells. Preliminary experiments 1) On the quantity of syringing liquid. If the determination of the internal pressure of the bladder takes a long time, the gradual accumulation of urine interferes and the pressure ascends. At the time of the examination, therefore, one must take this into consideration and the quantity of syringing liquid used ought to be the very minimum required to start the automatic motion of the bladder. The quantity applied by the author was approximately 20cc. 2) On the suitable time of determination. When 20cc of liquid was syringed into the bladder, the internal pressure was lowest at 15 to 20 minutes after the syringing. Further duration of liquid in the bladder caused the pressure to ascends through the accumulation of urine. So the author always determined the pressure from 15 to 20 minutes after the syringing. 3) On the internal pressure of the bladder produced by the syringing liquid, 20cc each. Upon three successive examination with Ringer's solution the internal pressure descended with each repetition of the examination, while under the examinations with physiological salt solution or distilled water it ascended with each repetition. If we take habitualness into account, Ringer's solution, which caused the pressure to descend with each successive examination, is the most suitable syringing liquid for the determination of the internal pressure of the bladder. 4) The bladder was under the innervation of the autonomic nerve system and the internal pressure was easily affected by it. The fact that the pressure descended by an injection of adrenaline or atropine and ascended by an injection of pilocarpine is sufficient evidence. On the other hand, the internal pressure descended at higher temperature as 40℃ or 65℃. It descended also through a venesection of 15cc. As higher temperature or venesection were ascertained to cause an increase of adrenaline in the blood by Saito, the author's cases seemed very likely to verify his opinion. Result of experiments 1) The internal pressure of the bladder, when syringed with 20cc of buffer solution, was lowest at pH 7.2. 2) When 20cc of 0.2N anion solutions as NaCl, KCl or. CaCl_2 were syringed, the pressure was highest by CaCl_2, less by KCl and lowest by NaCl. 3) When 20 cc of 0.2N cation solutions as KBr, K2CO3 or KJ were syringed, the pressure was highest by K_2CO_3, less by KBr, and lowest by KJ. 4) The internal pressure produced by the syringing of each 0.2N solution of grape sugar or urea, was higher than that produced by syringing of each 0.1N solutions of both. 5) The internal pressure produced by syringing of solution of boracic acid, permanganic acid, sublimate, caustic silver and rivanol was as follows: the quantity of each solution was 20cc and the concentration of each solution was that of clinical usage. a. In case of boracic acid, it was by 0.1 to 0.3cm water pressure higher than that of the control' that is produced by Ringer's solution. b. In case of permanganic acid, it was by 3.4 to 12.6cm water pressure higher than that of the control. c. In case of sublimate, it was by 1.4 to 2.3cm water pressure higher than that of the control. d. In case of caustic acid, it was by 1.8 to 4.0cm water pressure higher than that of the control. e. In case of rivanol, it was by 0.8 to 2.4cm water pressure higher than that of the control. 6) The internal pressure ascended by the syringing of the oil of turpentine, which caused an inflammation of the bladder. The ascent of the pressure was proportional to the syringed quantity. 7) The grade of degenerative metamorphosis of the epithelial cells of the bladder by syringing of solutions stated in (5) and (6) was as follows: Among the solutions, those which raised the internal pressure caused severer change than those which dropped the pressure. 8) The extensibility of the cells was in inverse proportion to the grade of degenerative alteration. 9) The determination of the internal pressure of the bladder seemed to give an idea of the vitality of the epithelial cells of the bladder.
